Discovering Seoul (South Korea)

Sometimes it’s amazing how fast one’s life can change. Many times, more than I would like to admit, we look down on our ability to deal with and overcome different situations in life; we miss out on experiences and changes that we know will benefit our lives just because we’re scared of failing. But if there’s something I learnt from reading self-development blogs all these years, is that it’s better to have failed trying to do something rather than ask yourself the rest of your life “what would have happened if…”.

I had these sorts of thoughts while I was waiting for the plane that’d take off from Dallas to my final destination: South Korea. It was a total of 31 hours of flight (my butt ended up in a perfect square :P) with a stop in Dallas where the plane was delayed 2 hours, but I didn’t care at all! I was going on vacations alone for the first time, to a country that was totally the opposite of mine but I’d wanted to go for so long, to meet with one of my best friends who I had known only through the internet, and I was going to say in her apartment for the 3 weeks I would be in Seoul. And not only that: as soon as I stepped out of the plane, I’d go to watch the last performance of the musical “In The Heights” where Key (from SHINee) would be the leading role. PURE CRAZINESS, I KNOW! A lot of dreams come true in a very short period and with very little time to process it all (what’s more, I think that even nowadays I’m not 100% conscious of what I experienced).

Finally landing at Incheon Airport!

I believe in the importance of lifting your middle finger in the face of fear. Those who know me face-to-face, in our daily life, know I’m shit scared of every single thing that crosses my path, but I don’t let fear take over me. I personally believe that’s the difference between a coward and a valiant. It’s not that the valiant doesn’t feel scared at all, on the contrary! She fears as much as the coward does. But in contrast, the valiant doesn’t let fear conquer her and keeps going forward, even though her mind might be telling her stories of how many things could go wrong (you do know that, in general, those bad things we think of never happen, right?).

My “can’t hide my happiness” face on one of the frist days in Korea.

I dared to go to the other side of the world to meet with a friend I met online. How about you? Have you ever done something similar that made you think “this is crazy, but let’s go for it anyway!”?

No words can make justice to how damn happy I felt at that moment!

One of the craziest and most amazing things, was that I got to watch the last play of “In The Heights” where Key (SHINee) was part of the main cast. I was SO lucky…! I had the most euphoric feelings for almost 3 hours in the theatre. I never thought I would have the chance of seeing Kibum live again, but I had the opportunity and I’m super grateful for it 🙂

My friend’s apartment was located in Edae, the place I find the most cozy and beautiful out of all I’ve been to in Seoul. Even though you’re aware you’re still into the big city, Edae makes you feel like you’re at home because there’s a constant mix of materials in both the buildings and pavement. Everything seems small from the outside, but once you walk into places and climb up stairs, you find yourself in a really large restaurant that you would have never imagined it was there from the outside.

The outside of the infamous korean make-up brand “Etude House”. I want to live there!

I was super excited to notice that I had all the stores I was interested in so close to the place I was staying at. I fell for brands like Artbox for the endless supply of stickers, notepads and cute things (that serve little purpose sometimes :P), Kyobo for the same reasons and also for the amount of books and magazines they sold (plus you were gifted skincare samples with your purchases, how is nice is that?!) and make-up/skincare brands like Nature Republic, Etude House, Missha, The Saem, Skin Food and Missha. I found out that korean products do wonders to my skin! In an upcoming post I’ll be reviewing what I got ♥.

Ramyeon because, why not?

What I missed the most about Korea was the food. Not only it is really cheap, but it’s also delicious and not heavy at all! I loved the infamous banana milk and the tuna snacks that saved my life when I was craving some food during the day. Summing up, I’d say that the place where I enjoyed food the most was Food Cafe. It’s not an elaborated restaurant at all, but I loved having food available 24hs a day LOL. Plus the food was delicious!

Not baaad, not baad…

On the first day, we hung out to the SMTown Coex. We walked up and down all the building, I bought a bit of SHINee merchandising from the official store, and at last we took the hand compatibility test with the members of SHINee.

Isn’t he cute? <3

The cute highlight of the trip: visiting a cat cafe. This one in particular was right under my friend’s aparment. I felt like falling asleep there, surrounded by cute kittens ♥.
