#OOTD: Why do I blog

#OOTD: Why do I blog

We’re 1 month in 2018 already, and I started out failing miserably at posting 9 times during January (managed to write and produce only 2 posts). Still, those 2 posts mean a lot to me and were carefully thought-out and written to add something to the conversation, rather than just some babble about my outfit of choice. This is a shift I introduced to you about in my end of year reflection post; one that is proving to be really challenging and so nurturing at the same time.

You see, this is my thing: writing, taking photos that tell a story. Make at least one small impact into the world. Having conversations that matter. Addressing the important and current. Writing is my savior. It’s one of those things that shaped me into who I am today. That thing that made me feel brave and courageous, that gave me a voice and an opinion. I hate confrontation and still I’m a firm believer of conflict. Because when conflict happens, so does change, improvement and progress. This is why I blog, this is why this space exists.

I haven’t come here looking for fame, recognition or money. I currently couldn’t care less about monetizing my blog and making sponsored posts. Reading content like this from bloggers I utterly adore makes me feel bored and lied to (that is, only when it’s so clear that it’s not a great fit for the blogger and that creativity ends up being shoved back into the last place), so why should I indulge?

No. I want to talk about the meaty, messy, nasty stuff.

I want to address what is wrong with the world and what are we doing (or not) to change it. I want my voice to be heard, and yours too! I want to make fashion fun again, an expression of your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, moods. I want each day to become more honest, more authentic, in a world that tells me that being so brings unwanted consequences. I want to prove to you that being a work-in-progress is totally okay, that no one has it all figured out, that it’s okay to be flawed.

I don’t want to show you only my best angles. Because we all have those ones we don’t like and don’t look flattering like the media wants us to believe. But it’s real, it’s still us. My bloated stomach is still mine, and it represents me, as much as the world is trying to make me hate it so much.

I want to own myself as a whole and show you that it’s okay to own yours too. I want to own how colorful my clothes are, the amount of prints and textures I can pull off in one same outfit, and my sandals that go perfectly well with frilly socks. All of this, while some people believe it’s poor taste and super tacky, is perfectly okay with me because they make me who I am. I’m “the girl who wears the colors of the rainbow” at the office, and that can’t make me any more prouder! My wardrobe is made out of pieces I LOVE, not timeless, capsule wardrobe-worthy pieces that apparently I should own (if I own a plain white T-shirt, call it a miracle!).

I started off 2018 feeling more confident, snarkier and sexier. I feel like I own my body, my thoughts and everything that comes in and out of my soul. I can own my flaws, make jokes about them, and leave the room feeling unaffected. I can stand next to a model at a shooting and feel like her body is perfectly okay and so is mine.

I guess I can say I started the year with the right foot in ♥.

No quiero mostarles solo mis mejores ángulos.

Great outfit, great photos & great post! Well written and thought provoking. Im glad you are feeling sassy in yourself! Nothing better than seeing a women feel comfortable in their skin. I love it. This was one of the reasons I started following your blog. As long as you are producing content you are proud of and happy with, who cares when its posted. It took me about 3 days to get my recent post up, but im glad because of the way it turned out! Im a firm believer in everything happens for a reason.

Aww, thank you so much Hayley! <3333. I try to be consistent, but sometimes life happens or I just don't have the inspiration to write/take photos. I'd rather wait a few days than just pop up with an outfit post saying "i love my sweater" 😛

Love this outfit… Your photography is so great, and loving your writing too! I also get such a rush from the creativity and just sheer fun of blogging! I just started my blog in September of last year, so it’s new. But I’m not new to blogging, and I’ve really enjoyed it so much lately!!

Girl, I’m totally with you. What a great post! I feel like I’ve started the year feeling a similar way to you. I want to find ways to ‘be better’ and to share those things on my blog. We don’t need more of the same….the blogging world has become saturated with sameness. The blogs I come back to are the ones that have a genuine voice and yours is one of those. Keep it up, even if it’s not nine times….two times is just fine.

Aww, thank you so much for your comment! I honestly don’t try hard to be different; otherwise I wouldn’t be blogging at all 😛 I just try to give people what I need sometimes as well: more than just a “look at the cute sweater I got”. There’s nothing wrong with those, but I think blogging and even microblogging were made to forge connection and community, and how can you do that when you don’t insert some depth into the conversation? ^^.
